The massoia is a tropical tree native to New Guinea. This medium-sized tree grows in tropical rainforests from 400 m to 1000 m above sea level. The bark of the tree is aromatic and has a pleasant, sweet coconut flavor. The bark is used for the production of masoia bark oil, which is obtained by steam distillation. Massoia has been used in traditional medicine from New Guinea, but it has also been a trade item among many Asian nations.
